10 best adventure songs
- Land Down Under by the men at work
Obvious? You bet. It’s a classic song about exploration. But if you’re on the road and this song comes along, you’ll probably start humming and your mind will probably start to wonder what wtf vegemite is and why it’s so important.
2. I’ve Been Everywhere Man by Johnny Cash
The man whose panties drop voice will also make you want to keep pretending you’ve been everywhere, man. And wife. IMO, Johnny Cash belongs to all playlist, and this is no exception.
3. Desert Rose by Sting
Does anyone else instantly think of Hansel receiving his award at Zoolander when they think of Sting? I do of course.
“Sting would be another person who is a hero. The music he’s been making for years? I don’t really listen to him, but the fact that he does… I respect that.
Well, Hansel. We listen to it, especially when we are looking for adventure.
4. Where streets have no name by U2
On the list of things the “first worlds” don’t think about: the fact that in many other countries the streets literally don’t have names.
Let Bono take you to such a place when you listen to this song.
5. Havana by Camila Cabello
Ok, I realize there are a lot of movie references here and this is a blog for a radio station, but I’m on a roll here so I’m going to go. I know Mr. and Mrs. Smith was a very questionable movie, but this song immediately reminds me of that sexy ass scene where Brad and Angelina are in Colombia and she’s having that shot of tequila. Delicious.
In any event.
This one will make you wiggle and think of distant lands.
6. On the road again by Willie Nelson
One of the best travel songs to play when you settled in on a road trip.
I can’t wait to get back on the road …
Go to places I’ve never been
See things that I may never see again
And I can’t wait to get back on the road
7. Montego Bay by Amazulu
Please, please go watch this 1986 video – with girls in 80s bikinis and group dancing – and tell me that doesn’t make you want to go to Jamaica. Or at least somewhere. Music videos from the 80s give me hope, and it’s some of the best music for adventure.
8. Midnight Train in Georgia by Gladys Knight and the Pips
A midnight train all over looks super romantic and a little quirky, although Georgia might not be at the top of your travel list. Or maybe it is. I don’t want to offend Georgia.
This song definitely makes me think of alternative travel methods, that’s for sure. I’ve never even been on a train. Have you got?
9. Me Gustas Tu by Manu Chao
I was on a beach recently listening to Manu and realized that even though I had listened to him a ton in the early 2010s (I don’t know why then, because the album I was listening to is released in 1998) I never realized that most songs sound the same.
But then I realized it didn’t really matter because I had four Coronas, I love the sound, and this guy sings in Spanish, French, English, Portuguese, Greek and sometimes others languages.
What could be more inspiring for adventure than a hyper-multilingual guy with bongo drums?
10. Take the B-52s
Please, go see this clip and tell me that doesn’t make you want to travel, then overlay a video of yourself canoeing over other footage of various rivers around the world. Her hair… the clipart images floating on the screen… it all makes me want to broaden my horizons and basically travel the world.
5 great travel songs
1. Beach Boys Kokomo
In order for an adventure song to deserve its place on your adventure song playlist, it needs to make you want to get to your destination fast, then take it slow.
This is where I want to go. You know, up to Kokomo.
2. The Mexico of James Taylor
Ohhh Mexico. This healthy song will get you to book a flight south ASAP because it makes it sound so good.
3. On top of the world by Imagine Dragons
This hymn is super uplifting and inspiring, and would be perfect to listen to on a plane traveling to an exciting place. You know, listen to it on a plane because when you’re this high you’re on top of the world.
It was explicit, right? Also, the hairstyles in this video: Inspiring for my soul.
4. Born to be wild by Steppenwolf
These days it is wild to travel. But with the worldwide lifting of covid restrictions, you will soon be able to plug in your Steppenwolf and …
Go on the highway
In search of adventure

Just make sure you are aware of the quarantine procedures wherever you go because you don’t want to be too much Savage.
5. New York State of Mind by Billie Joel
Isn’t it fascinating to think that there is a corresponding state of mind for different cities?
If you’ve ever been to New York, you know it’s true… and it translates to so many other destinations as well. What would you say is “the Toronto state of mind?” “. Please feel free to comment below, I’m curious.
5 songs about new adventures
1. The Man in the Mirror by Michael Jackson
There is an undeniable quality of expansion and introspection to travel and experience new adventures. Michael captures that with ‘Man In The Mirror’, which will make you think about your role in our global society and how you can contribute… and that sort of thing.
2. Kathmandu by Bob Seger
So many options! Travel to the mountains for a different perspective on the world. Thanks Bob.
3. Istanbul not Constantinople by They Might Be Giants
There is an “international” sound in this song which makes me travel to distant lands and think about new adventures. Isn’t it amazing how a song can do that?
4. California Dreamin ‘by The Mamas & The Papas
There is such a dreamy sound in this song. And if you are Canadian (depending on the season), you are probably thinking, “I would have to be safe and warm… if I was in LA ”
5. Bali Eyes by Porno for Pyros
Yes, it is obscure. And yes, he was on this list because he has “Bali” in the title. But seriously… go listen to the lyrics of their mushroom trip and tell me that this doesn’t take you to distant lands.
5 best love songs about adventure
- When I’m gone (Cups Song) by Anna Kendrick
I have my ticket for the long way
The one with the prettiest views
There are mountains, there are rivers, there are places to give you chills
But it would surely be nicer with you
You can’t sing about adventure without the obvious pain of having to give up what you love. Hopefully if you have the Anna cutting skills you have someone to sing this to before you go on your next adventure.
2. Take a jet plane
I realize Chantal Kreviazuk didn’t sing this song first (John Denver did), but I saw her in person in a small venue in Vancouver ten years ago. She was about to start singing this song, and the people near the bar were talking loudly. She called them so loud. It will stay with me forever because of how sweet and beautiful her voice is, and how badass she can be.
“Excuse me. You guys by the bar. I’m trying to sing a song here. Dead silence.
No kidding. I bet those cats by the bar will remember it for a long time.
It will forever be one of the best love songs on adventure.
3. Galway Girl by Ed Sheeran
This song explores the love and sharing of cigarettes in a pub in Ireland, and true to Ed Sheeran, it bops. Casual love is always love, and this song is both adventurous and charming.
4. Around the world by Daft Punk
This song is about grinding in clubs in the early 2000s and for me it’s a love song about adventure. The adventure of going to a club and crushing pre-covid, and the adventure of traveling the world with that funky beat in your ears.
5. Rio by Michael Nesmith
Trip to Rio. To fall in love. And please watch this video and appreciate how bored he looks when he sings – it brought me joy.
We hope you enjoyed this compilation of the best travel adventure songs, and we wish you safety and fun on your next adventure, even if you are just mentally traveling through music like we are.
