Distinguished Composer-Music Producer Roy Advances His Musical Legacy

MUMBAI: Indian music composer-producer Roy, who is known for producing music for songs like “Hawayein”, “London Thumakda” and “Zaalima”, which gave us many hit songs, recently composed and produced music for the main title track ‘Whistle Theme’ in Akshay Kumar featured ‘Bachchan Pandey’.
His songs have collectively garnered billions of views on Youtube and they are extremely catchy with energetic music.

After the success of his theme music as a composer, Roy shares, “I received a briefing from Azeem Dayani to compose this theme. However, I had no idea while doing it for ‘Bachchan Pandey. After Akshay Kumar Sir heard and approved it, Azeem told me about the movie. I am grateful to him for this opportunity. I had a lot of fun composing and producing the theme music for ‘Bachchan Pandey’. It’s an important part of the movie and it’s used there quite frequently. It’s very different from the songs I’ve worked on in the past, so it was fun to work on it. I look forward to composing more music in the future.

Describing his work on Whistle Theme, Roy says: “I never composed or even thought of creating anything with a whistle, ever! It happened, step by step. As Azeem informed me, I tried to create a melody that could sound deep. dark and haunting. Roshni came on stage and did a brilliant job of performing the melody, whistling it and trying to keep that dark, haunting vibe intact.
“With the help of Azeem Dayani in the supervision, I took the next step to adapt it to the aura of Akshay Sir which was to sound FIERCE for the film. The addition of heavy bass parts with screeches and downbeats completing the whistle sounds new age. Eric Pillai did a great job on the mix adding the next step to the final production of the theme song,” he adds.

Speaking about his background, Roy says, “I come from a small town in West Bengal called Asansol. My father Ram Ranjan Roy is a tabla player and worked in the government sector while my mother is a trained singer. I come from a family of musicians and I thank my parents for my success. I would not have been here today without their support. I am a trained musician and I want to carry forward their legacy.

Talking about the success behind his songs, he adds, “I do my best to assess real talent. Being an untrained musician allows me to bring out the best in every song. I make sure to offer the audience something new in every song because that’s my job. I love making music and being behind the scenes. I am grateful to have been able to work with well-known music directors like Vishal–Shekhar, Pritam, Amit Trivedi, Amaal Mallik, Meet Bros and Anand Raj Anand in a short time. ‘Cham Cham’ from ‘Baaghi’ is definitely the most popular song I’ve worked on. It recently surpassed one billion views on Youtube, which is huge for any Indian song.

Roy has produced and programmed music for chart-toppers such as “Kapoor & Sons’ ‘Kar Gayi Chull’, ‘Raabta’s ‘Main Tera Boyfriend’, ‘Hawayein’ by ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’, ‘Jabra Fan Song”, ‘London Thumakda’ from ‘Queen’, ‘Balam Pichkari’ from ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’, ‘Paniyon Sa’ from ‘Satyameva Jayate’, ‘Tera Zikr’ from Darshan Raval, ‘Burj Khalifa’ from ‘Laxmii’ and the list is never -ending.
