‘Encanto’ Composer Germaine Franco Prepares for ASCAP Experience Panel – Billboard

ASCAP Experience launches its 2022 program next week with a special panel featuring three of the industry’s leading composers and songwriters, as part of the PRO celebration women’s history month.

Confirmed for the March 8 “Worldly Women in Music” panel are Encanto composer Germaine Franco; Tania León, Pulitzer Prize winner; and 2016 ASCAP London Songwriter of the Year Amy Wadge (Ed Sheeran, James Blunt, Kacey Musgraves).

Celebrity panelists will explore what it takes to make music that crosses borders and cultural boundaries, with Billboard, West Coast and Nashville Editor-in-Chief Melinda Newman serving as moderator.

The session coincides with International Women’s Dayand the launch of ASCAP’s monthly virtual sessions, which are created to “inspire, educate and connect aspiring songwriters and composers around the world.”

Due to the health crisis, ASCAP’s flagship event moved to a virtual event for the first time in 2020 and then again in 2021. Last year, ASCAP Experience’s virtual panels reached over 41,000 real-time and on-demand streaming views. Those numbers equate to a 39 percent increase in attendance and 53 percent increase in RSVPs over the previous year, the reps said.
